The importance of self-care in our busy lifestyles.

Taking care of ourselves during busy times is often an oversight, so let's take on a 30 day self-care challenge together to reset the balance.

Hello there, Fellow Wanderers,

This week’s blog post centres around just how important it is to remember to take care of ourselves while we are busy taking care of others and our earth. Life has a way of running away with us, I know it does for me, and we forget to just stop and breathe. To take time or even just make time to do a little self-care and to place value on that time needs to be a priority. I know for sure this is a pot/kettle situation where I am not one to slow down or take a time out until I have no option. As a person with auto-immunes, who have a complete mind of their own, my self-care time-outs are often decided for me, by them, even if I find it frustrating, it doesn’t take long to realise how much better you do feel. Its for this reason that todays blog is so important to me.

Self-care is an important part of taking care of yourself and your health. It’s about making sure you are nourishing all aspects of your life, both physically and mentally by taking the time to give yourself some loving attention. It doesn’t have to be a huge undertaking but can be as easy as a warm bath or a walk-in nature. It can really be anything that brings you joy and helps you relax.

Self-care is important for your entire wellbeing as it can help reduce stress, improve your mood, increase your energy levels, and give you the time to focus on yourself. It’s also important to remember that self-care isn’t just about pampering yourself, although a good pamper does go a long way... It’s also about making sure you have healthy habits in place, like eating nutritious food, exercising regularly, sleeping enough, and avoiding negative patterns.

There are many options that can be included as healthy habits, for example, dedicating time each day for activities that bring you joy such as reading a book, taking a yoga class, being creative or just simply gardening. Being mindful to set aside time every week for leisure activities like going for walks with friends or attending art classes. Prioritize taking the time each month to relax and reflect, even if it’s just for a few minutes.

Taking part in self-care activities can have numerous benefits for your mental, emotional, and physical health, these activities can create balance and harmony in your life. Self-care also helps strengthen relationships with yourself and others since it encourages us to check in with our feelings more often and how they in turn are affecting our decisions.

Sometimes we place excuses in our mind to justify not caring for ourselves however, practicing self-care doesn’t always require money or even extra time. Simple things like meditating each morning or writing in a journal can be just as effective forms of self-care as having a weekend away or visiting a retreat. So, start today by setting aside a few moments for yourself to practice self-care activities that honour your well-being and journey through life.

Here are some eco-friendly self-care activities that you can do to nurture yourself in a sustainable way:

1. Take a nature walk outdoors and observe the beautiful indigenous plants, trees, and animals around you. Connecting with nature is not only calming but it can also help reduce stress levels and improve moods. If you are not close enough to a forest or nature park, spend time in your own garden or a park near you.

2. Connect with others - reach out and connect with friends and family, often our busy lives take time away from us that could be spent with those we love.

3. Choose organic or natural products for your wellbeing like organic essential oils, locally sourced herbal teas, body scrubs made from natural ingredients, etc. They're much better for the environment than synthetic alternatives, and better for your body!

4.Get organized - prioritize your tasks, make to-do lists and take steps to create a more organized life. When the space around you is uncluttered, it can go a long way to giving your brain space to breathe.

5. Educate yourself about sustainable living practices such as composting food scraps, reusing materials instead of throwing them away, and supporting local farmers markets or CSA farms to get fresh produce without producing excess waste. A day out to the farmers market can be a relaxing way to unwind and provide you with delicious, healthy produce.

6. Give back to local charities or volunteer in your community to show appreciation for all the ways nature has given us. Donating your time can be just as important to helping the environment and nourishes our souls.
