Celebrate, appreciate and explore creativity!

Hi there, fellow Wanderers!

Today’s blog post focuses on World Art Day this coming Saturday. World Art Day is a global celebration of the arts and culture. It was established by UNESCO in 1982 and takes place every year on April 15th. The purpose of this holiday is to promote art and art education around the world, as well as to celebrate artists who make important contributions to society through their work.

Art has the power to evoke emotion and provide a unique perspective on the world. It can be used as a form of expression, to represent the ongoing changes in society at any time, or simply to capture beauty. For many artists, art is an outlet for their creativity and emotions, it allows them to express themselves in ways that words cannot. Art can also be used as a form of therapy, helping people comes to terms with difficult emotions or situations. By creating art through a variety of mediums, people can explore their feelings and gain insight into themselves and the world around them.

Art and photography have always been a way to express my connection to nature, I look for beauty in the most unexpected places, and love capturing its intricacies and awe. Black and white photography has always been my favourite form of art, it allows the photographer to capture the essence of nature in its purest form, without any distractions or colours, while being mindful of the environment. This form of photography also creates a focus on the details that are often overlooked, when looking at a scene in full colour. Through black and white photography, I highlight how powerful nature can be, even in its simplest forms. Nature is strong, capable of shaping our lives and changing the world around us, the landscapes we see in photos can reflect the changes that have taken place over time and nature's ability to heal itself. The natural world has not only both beauty and destruction, but also an abundance of life-giving powers that help humanity adapt to its ever-changing surroundings. I strive to capture this through my art, by capturing images that tell stories about the natural world around us, in a way that is uncomplicated and open to individual interpretation. By seeing them in monochrome instead of colour, it allows the viewer to respond in their own way.

World Art Day is a great opportunity to encourage creativity and appreciation of art, to create the time for us to focus on supporting both existing artists and new artists, not only in our own communities but throughout the globe. It brings people together to share their love of art, whether it's through a gallery opening or simply chatting about their favourite artists.

Ways to Celebrate World Art Day this weekend:

  • Explore Art in Your Community

  • Take an Art Class

  • Share Your Art with Others

  • Set a goal for yourself. Whether you want to try painting, sculpting, or drawing, World Art Day is the perfect opportunity to try something new. Use the day as an excuse to move out of your comfort zone and explore new art forms that you may not have considered before. For example: if you're a writer who has never tried poetry before, why not try your hand.

  • Document your experiences by taking photos of what inspires you and sharing them online using #WorldArtDay, on social media channels like Facebook and Instagram!

  • Visit an Art Museum or Gallery, attend an opening or take a tour round an artist’s studio you admire.

This World Art Day I would like to take the time to celebrate artists I admire, artists I am grateful to be exhibiting with in the incredible Expo Metro Exhibition. This exhibition is a completely unique art experience, it allows artists of all disciplines to showcase their work on billboards, located in iconic locations, throughout the world. Each exhibition is a completely unique show, uniting artists from all countries. Each location is in a public space, allowing the works to be directly accessible to the public. By using billboards, Expo Metro is aiming to change the face of our urban landscape globally through replacing 1% of outdoor advertising, with Art.

In just the past 4 years, Expo Metro has produced 8 Expo exhibitions within 7 cities across 5 countries, Paris, London, Berlin, Monaco, New York, Los Angeles, Miami and now Spain, replacing 88 individual adverts with Art. A total of 4141 individual artworks have been viewed by 5.5 million people. An extraordinary achievement!

From 15th June till 28th June, 124 billboard artworks by 2 648 artist from 45 countries will be on display in an artistic, immersive experience. This experience will take place on a giant 180-meter billboard at the Passeig de Gracia Metro station in Barcelona, spanning both sides of the main corridor connecting L3 and L4, turning the metro into an enormous Art gallery.

This beautiful, immense work of art is accessible to everyone, if you are able to, join us for the opening on the 15th of June at 14:00(TBC). If not, follow these amazing artworks in their spaces on the tunnel at https://expometro.co or live on Facebook and Instagram. My black and white photographic image will be displayed on section 28, to have the privilege to be a part of such an event surrounded by such brilliant artists is an inspiring experience.

The Metro Expo event embodies the ethos of World Art Day, for me, it is a day to celebrate the creativity of all forms of art, a time for us to reflect on how much we appreciate artists and their creations. It's also an opportunity to share your own art with others by participating in events or by sharing your work online via social media.

If you're looking for some inspiration, have a look at some of the artworks that will be on the Metro Expo exhibition and learn about the artists behind them.

Have a creative day!
